Through sculpture, installation, and performance, Kelly Wu funnels interpretations of their memories and upbringing into obtained objects and personal archival material. Focusing primarily on heritage, gender, and class discourses, they are almost inexplicit with their autobiography, doling out secretive yet pointed political messages under the guise of ordinary forms. Accompanying texts and drole word-of-mouth storytelling tactics are used frequently as a tool to explain, helping to unravel the various factions of their memory and psyche at large.

Wu was born in Essex to two immigrant parents from Beijing, China. Although they did not grow up in a particularly artistic household, their past family life has inspired much of their present-day work. Their practice continues to draw from their working-class Chinese-British background and their lived experience as a queer woman of the global majority. They currently study at Central Saint Martins and they were represented by Galerie Bulatov in 2023. They have shown extensively across London and Paris.
